Flaming flowers that brightly blaze,
Swirling clouds in violet haze,
Reflect in Vincent’s eyes of china blue.
Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain,
Weathered faces lined in pain,
Are soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand.

Lagu diatas berjudul “Vincent“, dinyanyikan oleh Don McLean (meski banyak juga orang yang mengira judul lagu tersebut adalah : “Starry, Starry Night” 😛 ). Tahu Don McLean itu siapa ? Kalo nggak tahu… yah, silakan baca link-nya aja ya, tinggal klik aja di nama penyanyi lawas tersebut. Yang jelas, dia bukan sodaranya Don Juan De Marco ataupun Don Vito Corleone 😛 Don McLean ini adalah salahsatu penyanyi balada terkenal di tahun 70’an. Salah satu hits-nya Don McLean yang juga terkena, American Pie, masuk dalam kompilasi 365 IRAA’s “Songs of the Century“, dan dinyanyikan ulang juga oleh Madonna.
Pertama kali gue dengar lagu Vincent adalah waktu umur… 4 tahun kali yah; waktu itu lagi nemenin bokap belajar, di suatu malam di kota ini. Hehehe, ajaib-lah anak kecil umur 4 tahun udah terbiasa denger lagu se-timeless itu. Terbentuknya musikalitas gue yang seiprit ini banyak dipengaruhi oleh musik tahun 70’s – 80’s yang sering bokap-nyokap pasang & dengarkan di radio tape-nya. Terserah kalo ada yang bilang itu ja-doel (jaman doeloe)… menurut gue, timeless adalah kata yang lebih tepat daripada ja-doel 😀 Sampe sekarang kalo gue denger lagu Vincent, rasanya merinding ajah.
Oh ya. About the painting. Kenapa gue taruh lukisan itu di sebelahnya lirik lagu Vincent ? Well, penciptaan lagu Vincent terinspirasi dari kisah hidup pelukis Vincent Van Gogh , dan salah satu lukisannya yang sangat terkenal berjudul The Starry Night. Hehe, figures ?
The Starry Night diakui sebagai lukisan mahakarya Van Gogh. Lukisan beraliran ekspresionisme ini dihasilkan pada tahun 1889, saat Van Gogh menjadi pasien rumah sakit jiwa Saint-Paul-de-Mausole di kota St.Remy. Banyak yang bilang kalau kegelisahan mental & kesepian yang dirasakan Van Gogh tertuang dalam komposisi bangunan & bentuk swirling bintang-bintang yang dilukis Van Gogh dalam lukisan tersebut (later, bentuk sapuan swirling itu menjadi ciri khas dari beberapa lukisan lain yang dibuat Van Gogh). Sampai saat ini, The Starry Night menjadi salah satu lukisan yang paling banyak dibuat replikanya (selain lukisan2 terkenal lainnya seperti Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, serta Da Vinci’s Monalisa). I -myself, love this painting. There’s something magic, restless yet sad with the painting.
